Hatha Yoga & Tantra


This past week, I started a Hatha Yoga class. I thought I might share my initial experience and impression with you. Perhaps, like myself, some of you started to study Tantra through books, videos, and seminars without any prior yoga training. I hope that sharing this will be helpful to you.

After 8 years of study, I found my progress somewhat blocked. Various texts on Tantra commented on the importance of Hatha Yoga for many Tantric practices. I decided to give it a try.

A few weeks ago, I participated in a couple introductory classes. It was a surprisingly vigorous workout. I felt wonderful. I also felt the workout for a day and a half.

This past week, I joined the studio for regular study in Hatha Yoga. I studied with one instructor the first evening, and another the second evening. Both classes focused on hip position, balance, and breathe work. Many of the poses were based on variations of Warrior I and II. There was significant emphasis on bringing the focus down into the “Pelvic Bowl”.

I felt a shift in my energy. It struck me that Hatha Yoga, especially these poses, widens and strengthens the foundation for the Kundalini Energy.
